Document Search & Fees

SEARCH PUBLIC RECORDS

The San Juan Clerk and Recorder’s Office does not search public records on request, including the search of real estate records (§ 30-10-101(2.5)(c)) , except through formal Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) requests in accordance to CRS 24-72 Part 2. To pay for the cost of processing a CORA requests, including staff time gathering, preparing, reviewing, redacting to excise confidential or privileged material, and copying available documents, San Juan County charges a rate of $41.37 per hour. In accordance with state law, there is no charge for the first hour. You will be required to pay a full deposit of the estimated charges before staff works on your request. Public records and documents may be inspected or searched in our office or online. Did you know that our online databases contain records dating back to the 1860s? Documents with machine-readable text are searchable. Access to the databases are free in our office. Subscriptions and one-time access fees are available for remote home & business access.

CLERK AND RECORDER FEES

The following fees are charged by San Juan County for recording documents and for copies of records. Payment is accepted in cash, check or money order payable to San Juan County Clerk. Returned checks will be subject to a service charge and processing fee. If mailing the document to us, please include your return mailing address on the front of the document in the upper left-hand corner.
