Land Use Code

Community Planning has a pivotal role in managing and protecting the County\'s resources (land, water, minerals), environment and quality of life. The Department assists the Board of County Commissioners with recommendations to ensure that the County grows in a manner that is fiscally sound and economically beneficial to the County and its taxpayers and businesses.

The Board of County Commissioners encourages community involvement in local government and, as such, requires an open, public process in which the business of the public is accomplished in public and posted for public review. Land use decisions are no exception. Following are links to the online resources related to the County\'s work processing land use applications, and other land use decisions.

Land Use Code rev. 3/8/2017

Building

The Building Department works to provide timely, effective, consistent, and competent plan review and inspections of structures in San Juan County while ensuring safety and compliance with the building codes.

Planning

The vision of the County's citizens is embodied in the Town of Silverton and San Juan County SJC Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP), the keystone to the County's growth management program. Planning facilitates implementation of the CMP through review of land use applications, which are presented to the Board of County Commissioners as the decision-making body.
